01 — Share an outline
Identify the parties, location, issue and any immediate deadline.
At first, provide only the information needed to understand the issue. Flag any litigation, enforcement or other immediate deadline.
02 — Check suitability
We check conflicts and whether the matter fits our scope.
We review the parties and related entities before accepting work. Document and authority requirements are confirmed for the specific matter.
03 — Agree the mandate
Define responsibility, the next stage, fees and communication.
The engagement identifies the practising firm, lead lawyer, Chi Jianwei’s role, deliverables and fees. Intake, document organisation and tracking are handled by the team.
04 — Proceed with updates
Work follows the agreed mandate and reporting arrangements.
Agreed updates address progress, missing documents, next steps and client decisions. Communication is arranged around time zones; an automated acknowledgement is not advice or acceptance of instructions.
How fees are arranged
Fees depend on the scope, complexity and stage. Assessment, negotiation, litigation and enforcement can be scoped separately. Legal fees and anticipated third-party expenses are explained before engagement. Additional work is confirmed separately.
Communication with referring professionals
Subject to client authority and the agreed roles, we define who communicates with the client, what information is shared and who makes decisions. We do not undertake additional marketing to referred clients without authorisation. The practising firm, lawyers’ roles and client decision-making are agreed. A referral is not itself authority to act, and the referring organisation does not need to provide the legal analysis.
A practical document handover
Identify the intended matter and recipient first, then agree a checklist, identify missing items and arrange the handover. Enforcement of an overseas decision and ordinary document-use issues are assessed separately. Overseas counsel, notaries and other professionals retain their agreed roles.
